Together, We Can Make a Difference — it takes the entire community

Meaningful change happens when our community comes together with open hearts, honest understanding, and a shared commitment to hope. Whether you give your time, your resources, or your voice, you play a vital role in creating a stronger and more connected Black Hills. Homelessness affects individuals and families throughout Rapid City and the surrounding areas every day. Behind each statistic is a person — a neighbor, a coworker, a relative, a classmate — whose story deserves to be heard.

Community Education

Understanding homelessness and housing instability is more than learning about statistics — it’s about uncovering the real stories, challenges, and systems that affect our neighbors. Education helps break down stereotypes, promote empathy, and inspire action that truly makes a difference.

Attend a We Connect Community Toolkit Presentation

Learn how to better support our unhoused neighbors and strengthen community connections — and discover what services, supports, and resources are actually available in our area. Times and dates can be found on our Events.

Volunteer

Your time and compassion make a powerful difference. Volunteers are essential in building community connections and meeting immediate needs. Housing Stability Partners of the Black Hills welcomes volunteers from all walks of life!

If you’re new to this work, consider taking part in one of our We Connect sessions first.

Learning about available services and the realities of homelessness can help you connect more meaningfully and support our efforts with compassion and confidence.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Assist with the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count and the biannual Survey of Inadequately Housed Persons (SIHP) — help provide statistical information to the public, service providers, and state and federal agencies to justify the need for housing and supportive services in our community. Event dates are posted on our Events page.

  • Set up and sort donations at one of our Community Connect events — see times and details on our Events page.

  • Provide food or serve at one of the community meals — check upcoming community meal schedules on our Events page.

  • Join cleanup, repair, or beautification projects throughout our community that help make shared spaces safer and more welcoming.

Cash Donations

Our programs rely on grants, and most grants can only be used for specific purposes — leaving gaps in areas that matter deeply to the people we serve.

Monetary donations help fill those gaps. They give us the freedom to respond to urgent needs, support individuals in unique situations, and extend services beyond what limited funding allows.

Your donations provide hope and flexibility when it’s needed most. They can help ensure that our neighbors have access to essentials — food, warmth, safety, and dignity. Every dollar supports programs, outreach, and emergency resources for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
